From 6 to 8 July 2022, FIS members of the project “social inclusion of rural migrants in Hanoi” attended the DSA2022 online conference hosted by the University College London. This is the second time that members of the project team have attended a conference of DSA (Development Studies Association).

This year’s conference with the main theme “Just sustainable futures in an urbanising and mobile world” focuses on the climate and ecological challenges facing the world in the context of a pandemic or post-pandemic.

In this conference, team members presented two papers. The first report, titled “Ho Khau for the 21st Century: the reform of the household registration system in Vietnam”, was presented by Dr. Edward Lahiff, Dr. Vu Thi Anh Thu and Dr. Nick Chisholm. It analyzes recent reforms in Vietnam’s residency policy, especially the Residence Law 2020. The second paper, titled “Re-claiming Agency: Migrant Domestic Workers of Hanoi lead the way towards justice-oriented partnerships”, was presented by Dr. Nita Mishra, Dr. Edward Lahiff and Dr. Vu Thi Anh Thu. This report examines rural women’s lived experiences of migration in Vietnam.

Both reports have received much attention from international scholars. The participation of team members in the DSA2022 workshop has showed the contributions of the SIVN project to the international academic environment.
