In the first term of the academic year 2020-2021, for the first time, the Faculty of International Studies has a foreign student who won a scholarship granted to students with the best academic results every semester. Let's find out who the special student is.

Q: Nice to meet you, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
A: Hi everyone. I'm Kwon Jayoung. I am a Korean student, currently studying in the 2nd year at the Faculty of International Studies. I have been to Vietnam and have been studying Vietnamese for more than 2 years and 6 months.

Q: You are the first foreign student of the Faculty to receive a scholarship to encourage study. So when you heard that you were awarded a scholarship, how did you feel?
A: Actually, the goal that I want to achieve when I come to Vietnam is nothing but graduation. Because if I don't set goals, I won't be able to achieve anything, but because I can't speak Vietnamese, I thought I might not graduate. I don't have any hope for a scholarship and I don't dream about it. But when the miracle happened, my whole body shivered and I burst into tears. I cry not because I did well, but I feel that my efforts have been recognized.

Q: In more than 2 years of working with International Studies, how do you feel about the learning environment at the Faculty?
A: Actually, at first I felt quite confused, because I am not good at Vietnamese, I thought that I should choose the Faculty of International Studies. But it seems that it is destiny. At Khoa, I can study both English and Vietnamese languages at the same time, learning about issues that the world is interested in. In addition, all the teachers in our Faculty are very good and extremely friendly. Even if I go back with a time machine, I will still choose International Studies.

Q: As a foreign student, you must have encountered many difficulties in studying in Vietnam, right?
A: If we talk about difficulty, it is impossible to count. There are a few situations that still linger in my memory, one of which was my first day at school. That day, the first class I studied Marx-Leninist philosophy, I had only studied Vietnamese for less than 10 months, so I could not understand even 0.1% of the lecture. Everything is very strange. That very day I called my mother in Korea and said that I couldn't keep up with my studies here, I cried and said I wanted to drop out. After I finished the exam, my score was very low, I asked my teacher why my score was so low, and he said "I can't speak Vietnamese so my score can't be low." At that time, the teacher said, "If you want to score high, speak Vietnamese well".

Q: Do you have any secret to achieving good academic results?
A: I don't have any learning secrets. When I study Korean or English, I learn the meaning first and then memorize it, but I can't understand all Vietnamese so I just memorize them all. Can sleeping 2-3 hours a day be the secret of my exam time? Besides, I received a lot of help from my friends and teachers of the Faculty. The teachers are very good at English and understand foreign cultures, so they understand quite well the difficulties that a foreign student like me faces and always help me enthusiastically. I consider it a favor. Sincere thanks to my friends and teachers.

Q: Kwon Jayoung, can you send a word of encouragement to the students in the Faculty?
A: ! .
(Come on! There's nothing in this world that we can't do.)

Thank you Jayoung for your recent sharing. Wish you will achieve many better results in the process of studying in Vietnam.
